Appeasing the Evangelicals: Trump Is a "Baby Christian"

This is how the evangelical right in America will now treat Trump in order to have a coherent campaign to get a Republican voted in. And it works for Trump too. Where he can court Christians and Christianity, and secretly not give two hoots, he can also stay onside with secular and apathetic Conservatives. But if he didn't court the Christians, and only looked to the bigots and the businesses, he might lose that all important Bible Belt and religious vote. It's canny, and the religionists will lap it up. Here is Newsmax:

Dr. James Dobson: Trump a 'Baby Christian' Who Recently Accepted Christ

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump is a "baby Christian," according to Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson, who told Pastor Michael Anthony in a brief interview that Trump has "accepted a relationship" with Jesus Christ, and that it "has not been long" since that happened.

"I don't know when it was, but it has not been long," Dobson told Anthony, who posted the interview on his Godfactor.com website on Friday. "I believe he really made a commitment, but he's a baby Christian. We all need to be praying for him, especially if there's a possibility of him being our next chief executive officer."

Dobson told Anthony in the interview, done during Tuesday's meetings in Washington between Trump and nearly 1,000 evangelical leaders, that he knows who led Trump to Christ, but did not disclose that person's name.

Anthony commented that Trump may be like the Biblical example of Saul's conversion to Christianity, when he also did not know the language. Dobson replied that people will need to cut Trump "some slack.""He didn’t grow up like we did," Dobson said. "I think there’s hope for him, and I think there’s hope for us. I have great concerns about the next election.”

etc. There's something insidiously scary about this. It's so contrived and obviously staged, yet the evangelicals will believe it, and Trump gains.
