Carrier's Anti-Kalam Book Endorsement!

Apologies for my absence - half term, and kids, and all that.

Dr Richard Carrier was very generous indeed with his time and effort on my recent book The Resurrection: A Critical Examination of the Easter Story [UK]. I was very much indebted to him for his extensive blog entry on the piece. Within that article was the following quote, concerning my book on the Kalam (Did God Create the Universe from Nothing? Countering William Lane Craig's Kalam Cosmological Argument [UK]):

...his book on the Kalam Cosmological Argument, for example, is among the best and most complete you’ll ever find...

I recently wrote a piece asking for reviews of my books from people who have read them to balance the skew that Christian readers who have "reviewed" the books give to the small number of reviews my books get. Christian "reviews" I get for titles like this show that the reviewer either has not read the book or has, and has no real substantive evidence for their 1-star reviews. I exemplified this with my book on the kalam. Perhaps Carrier read my piece, or perhaps he just reviewed it anyway. Either way, I am again indebted to him for this cracking 5-star review:

Richard C. Carrier
5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Top Two Books on the Subject of the Kalam Cosmological Argument

There are two books that together complete the definitive take-down of the Kalam Cosmological Argument for God and are required reading for anyone intending to debate or defend: Fodor's Unreasonable Faith, and Pearce's Did God Create the Universe from Nothing? Both books are thorough and cogently argued. Anyone who claims to be an expert on it or even an enthusiast, pro or con, should have both in their library, and read them carefully.

As mentioned, I am grateful to him for this. Check out my kalam book - I think it's a cracker!

EDIT:

Another 5-star review has just popped in, too:

Robert Miner5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible yet comprehensive.

Verified PurchaseHaving read both Fodor’s “Unreasonable Faith” and Pearce’s “Did God Create the Universe out of Nothing?” back-to-back, I found this text far more accessible to a greater range of readers, and yet without any sacrifice in the quality of argumentation. With Pearce’s book just about any interested reader can “pick up and go” and come away from it feeling more deeply educated and philosophically robust on the complex subject of the Kalam, without the need for extensive background knowledge to make sense of what is going on. Furthermore, the author takes into account rebuttals and counter-arguments that are useful for the more debate-oriented skeptic and thought-provoking even for those who are not inclined to such. I would recommend this is a first choice for anyone who finds themselves on the skeptic side of the Kalam.
