Quote of the Day: Capt Stormfield on Dealing with Religious Trolls

Frequent commenter See Noevo seems, on most topics at the moment, to be trolling the threads and provoking debates on evolution. He is hugely failing in an almost comic-tragic way to pull any punches, and has shown himself to be a rank amateur who proclaims Danth's Law with wild abandon.

Why do we talk to him? Well, I really welcome debate here, first and foremost, and don't like to shut people down, even if what they say is egregious.

Here, Capt Stormfield couches it nicely:

"Why does funny professor Andy spend so much time with "idiots" like me?"

It's a fair question. Strictly speaking, he isn't spending time with an idiot like you. He, I, and I suspect most commenters, are addressing themselves to the honestly uninformed. Many of us were raised in religious environments populated with self-assured ignoramuses like you, and it was through the writers and speakers who countered their lies that we came to see them for what they were.

I doubt that anyone here imagines you will honestly assess anything they say. Nor do we much care. It is only your ego that makes you imagine you are the, or even a, subject of interest. My interest is the "me" of 45 years ago. The young religious person who wants to take an honest inventory of their beliefs, and needs to see the lying liars that misinform them standing naked, with their rhetorical pants fallen around their ankles.

Hmmm. You might want to get some ointment for that....
