Exaltation vs Incarnation Christology

Jesus Christ – who was he? That's something of a different question to skeptics like myself as it is to Christians. And it's a very different question in the context of the New Testament writers. What did Paul think Jesus was, as opposed to Matthew, Mark, Luke,

The Resurrection Belief Supervening on the Holy Trinity Belief

As most of you already know, I am writing a book on the Resurrection of Jesus, looking critically at the historical and theological claims involved. I wrote this aside section to highlight that without a coherent or working understanding of the Holy Trinity, the belief in a (Trinitarian) resurrection is

Trinity in the Spotlight: The Son of God, Begotten, Not Made.

Trinity in the Spotlight: The Son of God, Begotten, Not Made.

At the heart of the Nicene Creed are these words: “And [we believe] in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the

Divine Simplicity and a Trinitarian God

In theology, the doctrine of divine simplicity says that God is without parts. The general idea of divine simplicity can be stated in this way: the being of God is identical to the "attributes" of God. In other words, such characteristics as omnipresence, goodness, truth, eternity, etc. are

The Holy Trinity Is Incoherent #2 – Penal Substitution Theory

The other day, I wrote a piece on the general incoherence of the Holy Trinity from a logical and philosophical point of view, taking into account existence properties and the like. Some years back, on this topic when posting my original pieces, I even got to slugging it out with

The Holy Trinity Is Incoherent #1

The Holy Trinity has had a problematic history, partly evidenced by point of fact that theologians still don't agree on how it works, and partly seen from its ex post facto evolution, shoehorned into the scant evidence of the biblical texts. From Ignatius of Antioch onwards we see

God lied or knowingly deceived

Another little piece from my friend Julian Haydon. This one succinctly documents the issue that God seems to have entirely changed his revelation and theological scenario, if you will, from the OT to the NT. The same can be said for the soul, heaven and hell: GOD LIED OR KNOWINGLY

The Holy Trinity as Incoherent #2 - Penal Substitution Theory

Some weeks back I wrote a piece on the general incoherence of the Holy Trinity from a logical and philosophical point of view, taking into account existence properties and the like. In this post I want to return to the subject, though to look at it from a theological perspective.

Slugging out the incoherence of the Trinity

Gah! I posted my Trinity piece with some alterations on John Loftus' Debunking Christianity where I used to be a more full-time contributor. It was picked up by some Catholic chap who tried to critique it, except that he really didn't deal with the substantive points.

The Trinity - bad analogies

Thanks again to Andy Schueler for finding this. Good way of showing that those oft-used analogies to describe the Trinity are in fact highly problematic. I have worked in Catholic schools where these have been commonplace. http://youtu.be/KQLfgaUoQCw The Trinity remains one of the most nonsensical notions of
