What we learned when Fox News viewers were paid to watch CNN

Fox News isn't just a news network or part of a larger media and entertainment umbrella. It is a lifestyle, a political worldview, a cult. This bubble or better, cage, is where Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity are the sect leaders, manipulating and cajoling, provoking and controlling. And

Right-Wing Bias in the MSM? Reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian Problem

We so often hear about left-wing bias of the mainstream media from those on the right. But there have been very salient examples of right-wing, imperialistic bias from these same sources. And people are calling them out on air. These examples are brilliant, as are the analyses from Novara Media.

What Is Wrong with the Left?: The Mechanisms of Messaging

I was asked the other day “what is wrong with the left?” or “where has the left gone wrong?” This is presumably in the context of the UK since this is quite a different political environment to the US, although there are obvious similarities. Let me answer this question in

In Defence of BBC News. Sort of.

In Defence of BBC News. Sort of.

This piece is not to have some kneejerk defence of the BBC because I am of a liberal persuasion. I am also not a media and communications expert. This is my armchair appraisal of the BBC, and most pertinently, its news programming. My appreciation for the BBC came when I

A few months back, I was involved in a one on one debate with David Warden of Dorset Humanists on the subject of "Dorset Humanists Debates - Brexit, the Media and the Future of Democracy". David Warden spoke first followed by myself, then some cross-examination and then some

Brexit and the Media

As Winston Churchill once said, the best argument against democracy is a 5-minute conversation with the average voter, but there you go. Has Brexit represented a win for democracy? In short, no. We have a representative democracy whereby we democratically vote for a local MP to represent us in Parliament

FOX News Is At It Again

FOX News Is At It Again

FOX News is biased. Yes, we know that. And we know that MSNBC is almost as biased the other way. But these montage videos really show this in simple detail (these are facebook embedded videos, so some people might have adblockers or work site blockers - you might need to

The Biases of the News Media

Here is something that popped up on another thread (H/T MystiqueLady). [source - Vanessa Otero - right click on image and open in new tab to see it larger] Discuss.

Quote of the Day: Michael Candelario on the Post-Fact Electorate

This one comes from facebook. Couldn't agree more: In the US, there are large swaths of voters (some examples seen here in this thread) to whom facts have become biased. Because their deeply held views have been shown to be false, the mere fact of presenting facts for
