Trump, the Bible and Church Photo Ops

Who the hell is advising Trump? Seriously, whose idea was yesterday's fiasco? Let's lay out a few of the details. Trump gave a speech in the Rose Garden of the White House after cowering in a bunker and remaining silent over the last few days. In

2020 Election Statewide Predictions & Nonreligious Trump Voters

I'm a big fan of the YouTube channel Political Forecast - Election Predictions. In his latest video, as ever, he takes you through a state by state analysis of the election, putting Biden and Trump head to head. It comes out more favourably for Biden than it has

To Golf Or Not To Golf, Trump Is in Question

To Golf Or Not To Golf, Trump Is in Question

I could pick any topic to discuss in this sort of manner, but golf it is. There is an eclectic mix of commenters here and I wanted a definite answer from a group of them, namely the fervent and immutable Trump supporters. First, let me give you Trump's

White Evangelical Support Through the Pandemic, and Going Forward

The coronavirus has caused all sorts of changes in behaviour over its course, but one demographic that is always interesting to look at is the support white evangelicals have for Trump. This is because Trump, if he had been a Democrat, would have been absolutely eviscerated for his moral behaviour

Al Franken and Steve Schmidt Chew the Trumpian Cud

Okay, so this will be the last exclusively political one for a few posts. I'll get back to religion! This is a fantastic interview that Al Franken (shame he had to step back from politics - so much potential) gave to Steve Schmidt. Schmidt is an interesting person,

Political Compass

Political Compass

The political compass is always worth doing to see where you fit on a more pluralistic spectrum other than a simple left/right continuum. It works between left and right, authoritarian and libertarian. I think it's genuinely quite accurate with its appraisal. I do get annoyed at answering

Renewables, Going Forward

Renewables, Going Forward

This piece isn't apropos of anything in particular. There is an organisation in the UK called "Look After My Bills" who won the biggest ever Dragon's Den (Shark Tank in the US) backing. What they do is survey the energy field and have a

Lobbying: Corporate and Political Corruption

This is well worth watching. Cracking speech from the MP for Coventry South, a newcomer. It Turns out that the World Is Fundamentally & Massively Ignorant

I only found out what a trillion was in my mid-thirties. And it was only recently that I heard, and man I was shocked, of the number 35,000! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uUyiE0fzJ4 What a total twit. I would love to classify this under epistemology, but that

Bitecofer on Republicans' & Democrats' Election Strategies & Predictions

If you're going to watch anything today, watch this. Bitecofer has really created a reputation for herself to be one of the most reliable and interesting pollsters and analysts around. Here, there are loads of nuggets and I only wish that she was interviewed for longer: Lots to

Planet of the Humans

Michael Moore is like Marmite - you either love him or hate him, generally speaking. Those on the right particularly hate him for his obvious leftism. Here, his latest film concerns Jeff Gibbs's journey considering climate change and corporate America, particularly in terms of energy - renewables and

"Numbers Are Continuing to Rise!" Leadership Matters. Truth Matters.

"Numbers Are Continuing to Rise!" Leadership Matters. Truth Matters.

"Numbers are continuing to rise..." You might be forgiven for thinking this was an assessment of the death statistics (in the US); after all, this was a comment by the POTUS. But no, it was on Twitter and it was, yet again, a comment from Trump rather narcissistically

Well Done God: Counting the Hits and Ignoring the Misses

There is a definite tendency to count the hits and ignore the misses when considering the actions of God. God is love and God is great and isn't God wonderful? Look at the mountains and look at the forests, look at the beautiful animals, the lambs and the

On Campaign Finance Reform

This comment was from Cajun Exile, on this thread here in response to this video. I'll post it and then reply interlinearly. It received a torrent of upvotes from people, back at whatever forum this guy came from, who piled in with their groupthink upvoting - a very

Climate Change Denialist Funders' Leaked Report Absolutely Confirms Climate Change

I meant to write this weeks ago but got waylaid. This, in my opinion, is massive. A report has recently been leaked from bank JP Morgan who themselves have spent decades funding organisations seeking to spread denial and disinformation regarding climate change. They are the world's largest financier

Thunberg: Why a Child Activist Sparks So Much Hate

I sat on my own lounge a couple of days ago and listened to one of my parents and my in-laws relay so much hate towards, for all intents and purposes, a 16-year-old (now 17) that I could hardly think of how to appropriately react whilst remaining diplomatic. When I

AOC Slam Dunks on Faith. Jesus Would Have Been a Libtard.

AOC is so often on the money, this time calling out Christians for regularly being, well, not much like Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v8gpcJaKz4 As she mentions, the US has a "long history...of using scripture, of weaponising and using scripture to justify bigotry." Amen.

I am Certain of My Atheism. I've Said All I have to Say. Or Have I?

I remember that when I used to blog over at Debunking Christianity for John Loftus, all those years ago, even then, he would often declare that he had nothing left to say that he hadn't already said. The volumes of writing he had done both on the Internet

Thought for the Day: Military Spending

Thought for the Day: Military Spending

There is this: And there is the claim that whilst developed European nations spend between 2-4% GDP on programmes for children and families, the US spends 0.6%. Families can suffer in poverty because...BIG SHIPS and BOMBERS. Now, I understand the Cold War and all that, but does the

Australian Religious Discrimination Bill Backfires on Christians

Sorry I've been incommunicado as of late - a chest infection + MS = yuck. An interesting article appeared recently in the Sydney Morning Herald discussing the implications of a new religious discrimination bill that looks to adversely affect the very people that are championing it: the law of unintended

Campaign Finance 101

Sorry for my hiatus over the last half week or so - I've been ill. My friend put me onto this YouTuber recently and again pointed me towards this 101 of election funding - a very useful video for those who need to know about the very complex

Trump's Playing Chicken with the Electorate. Obama: What's Good for the Goose...

Holy hell, what the bejesus is going on with this man. It's like Trump is trying his hardest to win a game of chicken with the American electorate, playing who will pull out first, the electorate, or the man trying his hardest to be the world's

Dems vs GOP: Voter Confidence in Scientific Method

Dems vs GOP: Voter Confidence in Scientific Method

Pew Research Center recently carried out some research with regard to science and voter preference. The piece is interesting and worth a read, but what stuck out for me was the confidence in the scientific method. As Pew stated: Factual knowledge alone does not explain public confidence in the scientific

Why Americans Should Be Very Afraid of the State of their Government

Far be it for me, a British citizen, to lecture Americans on democratic failings in light of Britain shooting itself in the foot in political and economic suicide. But here goes anyways. Let's see what has happened. And remember the impeachment: that whole checks and balances process whereby
